INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 23, 2017) – The Salem International University (SIU) Tigers men's soccer team's five-game winning streak came to an end Saturday, falling to the Marian University Knights 3-0.
Salem was aggressive, getting off 12 shots to Marian's seven, and managed a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks; but the Knights got an impressive performance from goalie Sidney Miranda, who saved all six of SIU's shots on goal.
The Knights scored the first points of the match a little more than 30 minutes in on a goal from Tommy Bullock off a pass from Luke Sartino. Eight minutes later, Hamed Sidibe scored on an assist from Ian Gammon to give Marian a 2-0 lead before the half.
Salem upped its intensity in the second half as Marian retreated into a defensive shell, getting seven shots and five corner kicks to just two attempts from Marian; while Miranda had four goals in the second half.
This was the first time SIU has been shut out all season, dropping the Tigers' record to 5-2-1; Marian improves to 3-4.
Salem International University will hit the road next week for a game against Malone University on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. before returning to Catalano Stadium for a three-game homestand from Sept. 30 through Oct. 10; including a game against No. 22 West Virginia Wesleyan on Oct. 3 at 2 p.m.
