Box Score FAIRMONT, W. Va. (Jan. 29, 2018) – The Salem University Tigers women's basketball team lost on the road to the Fairmont State University Falcons 76-54.
Aliyah Dotson and
Isis Mance led a struggling Tigers' offense with 13 points each as the only Salem University to finish in double figures. After opening the game with Mance and
Jillian Romero 3-pointers in the first two minutes, Salem managed only six points the rest of the first quarter, falling behind 18-12.
Leading scorer
Keishla Gilmore was stifled, scoring just seven points on 13 shots with five turnovers as Salem struggled to finish inside or out, hitting 20-for-67 (29.9 percent) from the field, including 7-for-24 from the 3-point line (29.2 percent).
While struggling from the field, Salem did little to supplement its offense, getting to the free-throw line just eight times, hitting seven, and getting outrebounded 45-37.
Fairmont simply brought too much firepower, sending wave after wave of players in a balanced scoring attack with only two players in double figures and a massive 35-5 advantage in points off the bench. Sierra Kotchman had 11 points (on 4-for-13 shooting) and Hope Bray was a microwave scorer, adding 11 points in 13 minutes off the bench to lead the Falcons.
All 11 players who saw the court scored for Fairmont, hitting 30-for-62 form the field (48.4 percent), doing damage inside compared to just an 8-for-26 (30.8 percent) performance from deep.
Kelli Jo Harrison was a strong force inside, scoring just nine points, but grabbing 12 rebounds, including four on the offensive end, and blocking three shots with a steal. Brooke Kurucz had nine points and five assists in just 21 minutes.
Dotson had Salem's most efficient performance with her 13 points coming on 5-for-10 shooting, including 3-for-5 from the 3-point line to go with our assists. Mance filled up the box score, adding eight rebounds and two blocks to her 13 points.
Christy Gonzalez had a strong performance inside with nine points, 10 rebounds and two steals.
With its second loss to Fairmont State of the season, Salem University falls to 5-14, including 2-8 on the road. The Tigers will host Lincoln University on Jan. 31 at 6 p.m.
