Missing
Jillian Romero and facing full-court pressure the entire 40 minutes, the Tigers committed 32 turnovers, giving Lincoln a 30-6 advantage in points off turnovers and an 11-4 edge in second-chance points.
Keishla Gilmore led Salem with 18 points (on 7-for-19 shooting) and three assists, and
Isis Mance had 13 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, struggling through an injury sustained early in the first half.
Lincoln started the game with a full-court trap, trying to force Salem to the sidelines with two defenders while jumping passing lanes. The tactic did little to directly force turnovers, with the Tigers patiently moving the ball up the court, it served to wear Salem down as the Lions cycled through substitutions to keep fresh legs.
Salem kept within reach through the first half when Mance suffered an injury after making back-to-back layups. After Gilmore brought the score within five at 23-18 with a 3-pointer, Lincoln pulled away with a 10-2 run for a 13-point halftime lead.
Ten different Lincoln players scored, led by Teira Pendleton and Michell Fitzgerald, who scored 11 and 10 points, respectively; their depth emphasized by a 20-0 advantage in bench points.
When Salem's exhaustion bubbled to the surface, it didn't show against the initial press, but by a move away from the early patient movement, breaking off to press an advantage that never materialized, driving into a crowd to give the Lions 15 steals. And it showed on the glass, especially late, giving up 15 offensive rebounds in the second half.
With the loss, Salem drops to 5-15, including 3-7 at home. The Tigers will continue their six-game homestand on Feb. 6, hosting Wilmington University at 6 p.m.
