ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Salem University women's tennis team clipped Roberts Wesleyan 4-3 to remain unbeaten this season, Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Tigers improve to 2-0.
Playing on the road in a hostile environment Salem came from behind to pull out their second victory of the year.
On a cold and windy day versus Roberts Wesleyan, the Tigers got out to a great start winning two out of three doubles matches taking the doubles point with a 1-0 lead.
Roberts Wesleyan was not detoured as they battled and fought their way back into the match taking a 3-2 lead with two matches left to be played with a crowd of onlookers getting louder by the minute.
Freshman
Ana Kunic won her match at No. 1 singles to even the score as freshman No. 2
Julia Piatek was the lone Tiger left to play. With the match on the line, Piatek played like an experienced veteran clinching the match for Salem
"The girls were incredible all day long. The match was pushed back because of weather and once the courts were dry it was still cold and windy. I was a little worried about the delay, but the girls were very professional and did not skip a beat. Every single girl fought hard today despite winning or losing and they all improved their games. This was a big win for the girls and I couldn't be prouder of the heart they showed on and off the court," stated by Tennis Head Coach
Todd Tucker.
The Tigers are back in play tomorrow as they host the University of Charleston at 3:30 p.m.
