SALEM, W.Va. - Playing its first home match of the year the Salem University women's tennis team battled for three and a half hours Wednesday in front of a tremendous student body of cheering fans, as it dropped a 5-2 decision versus top-ranked Charleston. 
 
Charleston got out to an early lead by winning the doubles point and taking a 1-0 lead. 
 
Salem took two of the singles matches and had set points in one other match. Both teams played a great match, and, in the end, Charleston pulled through. 
 
"After they went through us in doubles the girls responded by playing great singles. I was excited as my girls did not back down what so ever. They were incredible, fighting for every single point against one of the best NCAA Division II programs in the country. Win or lose we get better. This was a big day for the women's program. The atmosphere was electric as the student body was out in full force. We all had lots of fun and were very thankful for the support," quoted head coach Todd Tucker.
 
The Tigers are back in action Saturday, October 13th for their Fall Brawl Tournament.
