MADISONVILLE, Tenn. (March 17, 2018) – Four different Tigers finished with three RBIs as the Salem University Tigers baseball team matched its season-high in runs with an 18-8 victory over the University of Cincinnati Clermont.
The Tigers broke the game open with a nine-run second inning, doing all its damage after getting outs with two of their first three batters.
Salem took advantage of five walks, including its first four runners to reach, getting consecutive hits from
Jimmy Cramer,
Josh LaPrest,
Najay King, and
Thirus Jones.
Remmington Boyce ended the inning with a two-RBI single.
UC-Clermont responded with four runs in the bottom of the second, cutting its deficit to 10-4 on three walks, two hits, and an error.
For the game, Salem scored its 18 runs on a season-high 19 hits and drew seven walks.
Salem got tremendous productions from the middle of its lineup, getting three hits, three RBIs, and three runs scored each from LaPrest, King, and Jones; batting in the three, four, and five spots.
Jimmy Cramer had a team-high four hits with an RBI and three runs scored. All three of Jones' hits were doubles. LaPrest finished with two doubles.
Cole Standifer got his second start of the season, pitching four innings and surrendering three hits with four strikeouts and six walks to improve to 2-0. UC-Clermont scored six runs on Standifer, only two of which were earned.
With the win, Salem improves to 10-5-1 on the season and 4-0 on a neutral field.
