Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. (March 16, 2018) – Hanna Crew knocked in four runs on three hits in four at bats to give the Salem University Tigers softball team its first victory of the season in an 8-5 victory over the University of Minnesota-Crookston.
Salem put together a season-high eight runs and seven RBIs, stringing together double digits in hits for only the second time this season.
The Tigers got off to a slow start, giving up three runs on two walks and two hits. Crookston's Khailyn Neumayer hit a two-RBI double to put Minnesota on the board, then scored on a Rocky Bjorge single to right field in the top of the first.
Destinee Baldwin relieved starting pitcher
Christine Bombardiere to finish the inning. Baldwin gave up back-to-back singles in the second inning to give Crookston another run and a 4-0 lead.
Salem's bats came to life in the third with a five-run inning.
Tori Butler led the inning off with a single to left field. After Alexy Cass grounded out,
Casey Moritz doubled to knock Butler in. Moritz went on to score on an error,
Morgan Atkinson hit a RBI-single to center field, and Crew punctuated the inning with a two-RBI single.
Both teams traded a run each in the fourth inning, with Crew hitting another RBI single to center field. Crew hit a two-out RBI single to center in the sixth inning and Salem scored another run on a walk to take its 8-5 lead.
Salem's defense closed the game retiring all three Crookston batters in the top of the seventh inning.
Rosey Romick picked up the win from the pitcher's circle in a relief effort, throwing 4.1 innings with five strikeouts and one run scored.
Crew led Salem with three hits while Romick and Moritz had two hits each. Romick scored one run and Moritz scored twice with an RBI. With the win, Salem improved to 1-14 on the season.
