Box Score 2 CEDARVILLE, Ohio (March 26, 2018) – The Salem University Tigers softball team continued its struggles on the road, committing 10 errors in two losses in a double header against Cedarville University.
The losses dropped the Tigers to 1-19. Cedarville won its fourth straight, improving to 13-9.
Game 1 – Cedarville 10, Salem 1
The Tigers committed six errors and gave up seven hits in Game 1 to lose 10-1 in five innings.
Christine Bombardiere started in the pitching circle for Salem, walking the first two batters and giving up back-to-back singles as part of a four-run first inning for Cedarville.
Salem got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning.
Tori Butler leadoff the inning with a double. After two strikeouts,
Morgan Atkinson singled to center field to bring Butler in for the RBI.
Cedarville responded with three runs on two hits and an error in the bottom of the third inning. It scored three more in the fourth.
Bombardiere pitched three innings, giving up seven runs (six earned) on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts for the loss, falling to 0-9 on the season.
Destinee Baldwin pitched one inning in relief, giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits and striking out two.
Butler finished 1-for-2 with a double and run scored. Atkinson and
Casey Moritz each hit 1-for-3.
Game 2 – Cedarville 10, Salem 2
Cedarville got most of its damage done early, scoring eight runs on six hits. Five of the eight runs were unearned, with Salem committing five errors in the inning.
Three consecutive Cedarville hits to start the bottom of the second inning and another Tigers' error gave Cedarville two more runs to take a 10-0 lead.
Salem scored two unearned runs in the fourth inning on three hits with two errors.
Rosey Romick started in the pitcher's circle for Salem, leaving in the first inning after giving up eight runs (three earned) on five hits with a walk for the loss, falling to 1-8 on the season.
Baldwin pitched 2.2 innings in relief, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits. Bombardiere closed out the game with one inning, striking out two.
Ariana Garcia and
Hanna Crew each his 1-for-2. Garcia had an RBI and a run scored. Romick was 1-for-1 with an RBI.
Salem will play its first home games of the season on Tuesday, March 27 with a double header against Glenville State College starting at 2 p.m.
