WISE, Va. (March 29, 2018) — Facing tough conditions on the road, the Salem University Tigers women's tennis team lost its match to the University of Virginia College at Wise 6-3.
Playing in 15-20 miles per hour wind immediately after a five-and-a-half hour drive to beat worse weather conditions, Salem fought hard against the elements and opponents alike.
"The girls played their best match of the season. Anytime you have to play a match after traveling that far and play that well shows a lot of toughness," Head Coach Todd Tucker said. "Kristina Vuksanovic played very well today, beating a girl who was ranked higher than her. Alaina Weltz played extremely well getting her first singles victory of the year.
"Brianna and Kristina are getting better in doubles every day, which showed today. I'm extremely proud of the girls' effort."
With the loss, Salem drops to 1-16 on the season. They will return to action on the road against Bluefield State College on April 1 at 10 a.m.
