VIENNA, W. Va. (April 20, 2018) — The Salem University Tigers softball team won both games in its road double header against the Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots, sweeping the season series 4-0. 

The Tigers got big performances from two seniors heading into tomorrow's senior day double header against Bluefield State College, improving to 11-21 on the season. 

Game 1 -- Salem 9, Ohio Valley 1

WBOY Honda Athlete of the Week Christine Bombardiere pitched a complete game, limiting Ohio Valley to a single run on nine hits with four strikeouts and a walk. 

Ohio Valley scored the first run in the bottom of the second inning on a RBI single from Gabrielle Bennett, knocking in A. Lidstone, who led of the inning with a single. 

Salem responded in the top of the third on a three-RBI double from senior outfielder Tori Butler, scoring Rosey Romick, Hanna Crew, and Ariana Garcia. After Bombardiere walked, Olivia Davoli scored Butler on a RBI single. Butler scored again in the fifth, leading off the inning with a double and scoring on a wild pitch and an error. 

Morgan Atkinson set the tone for a four-run Tigers' sixth inning, leading off with a triple. Garcia reached and scored Butler on a fielder's choice; then scored on Romick's RBI double. Bombardiere ended Salem's run with a two-RBI single. 

Butler led Salem's offense, hitting 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Atkinson was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and run scored. Garcia had a hit, RBI, and two runs scored. Bombardiere was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a walk. 

Game 2 -- Salem 8, Ohio Valley 5

In the second game, Salem got great production from the top of its lineup, getting a combined seven RBIs and seven runs while hitting 8-for-16 for the game. 

Salem struck early with Casey Mortiz starting the game with a triple and scoring on Atkinson's RBI single. Romick got the start in the pitcher's circle, struggling in the first inning, giving up three runs on four hits. After three-up, three-down innings from both teams in the second, the Tigers put together seven runs in the third and fourth innings. 

Moritz started things off with a one-out double, advancing to third on an error Atkinson reached on. Garcia knocked both in with a two-RBI single, advancing to second on the throw home. Crew followed that with a RBI-single and Butler's groundout to shortstop scored Crew. 

Crew hit a three-RBI double in the fourth, scoring Atkinson, Moritz, and Abbey Callo. 

Two Salem errors led to two Ohio Valley runs in the bottom of the sixth inning before Bombardiere moved to the pitcher's circle to end the inning with a strikeout. 

Crew finished 2-for-4  with four RBIs and a run scored. Moritz was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Atkinson was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. Garcia was 1-for-4 wit two RBIs and a run scored. 

Romick pitched 2.2 innings, giving up three runs on five hits with two walks. Destinee Baldwin (2-1) pitched three innings, giving up two runs, both unearned, for the win. Bombardiere pitched 1.1 innings, striking out two for the save. 

Salem will celebrate its seniors tomorrow against Bluefield State College in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. at Hope Field.
