Box Score BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Salem University men's soccer team rolled past Concord with an impressive 5-1 victory, Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Salem improves to 3-4, while Concord drops to 1-3-1.
The Tigers held the advantage in shots (19-4), shots on goal (15-4) and corners (4-2).
Salem started the match off hot, as sophomore
Federico Toschi hit a shot just over Concord's keeper Kyle Brown and found the back of the net at 5:27 for a 1-0 lead.
Four minutes later, Toschi found the back of the net again as sophomore
Ameen El-Shami found a cutting Toschi for his second goal of the day and a 2-0 advantage.
At 28:17 Concord's Bruno Baptista scored a goal off a corner kick to cut the lead to 2-1.
At intermission, the Tigers held a 2-1 lead over the Mountain Lions.
In the second half, sophomore
Nikklas Roessler found the back of the net as he blasted a free kick from about 25 yards out past the goalkeeper to give Salem a 3-1 lead with 15 minutes left in the match.
At 80:59, Salem was awarded a penalty kick as senior
Amon Tarus stepped-up and knocked in the kick for a 4-1 advantage over Concord.
With two minutes left in the match, junior
Yosmel Romero scored a goal to push Salem's lead to 5-1.
