CULVER CITY, Calif.- Salem University softball's junior Morgan Atkinson was named FastPitch News (FPN) 2019 Division II Preseason All-American Second Team, earlier this week.

Atkinson, a Bakersfield native, was a key player in Salem's 2018 season. Starting 35 of the 36 games, Atkinson was named 2018 All-Region Second Team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

Atkinson was ranked 15^th in the nation with a batting average of .459 and 26^th in the nation with a .516 on-base percentage. Atkinson led the Tigers last season in batting average marking 50 hits in the book.

She blasted ten doubles, five triples and one home run, raking in 30 RBI as a sophomore.

"Morgan has had a positive impact on the team in her first two years. We look for her to have another strong season this year offensively and defensively," Head Softball Coach Steve Potts added.

The Tigers open up the season with a doubleheader at Winston-Salem State on February 15^th at 2:00 p.m.
