Asia Hines posted her best finish this season in the women's race and
Mario Ospina broke his own school 8k record in the men's race as the Salem University cross country teams competed in the Concord University Alumni Meet Friday at Athens, W.Va. The meet was the final 2019 regular season competition for the Tigers.
Hines placed 16th out of 54 runners overall and 11th out of 48 runners from NCAA Division II schools. She ran the 5k course in a time of 23:17.
Nya Jones (26:51) finished 36th overall, while
Cerise Dingiswayo (27:15) was 38th,
Keara Wilson-Crockett (29:22) placed 42nd and
Indira Rauf (42:37) finished 53rd. In the team standings, Salem placed fifth out of six teams. University of Charleston captured the team title.
On the men's side, Ospina posted a time of 27:44, eclipsing his own record he set two weeks earlier by 21 seconds. Ospina finished seventh out of 47 runners overall and third out of 36 Division II runners.
Dominic Mazzariello (29:13) was 19th overall,
Isaiah Harris (30:18), finished 26th,
Anthony Cole (33:49) placed 39th,
Delmar Jeter (38:24) was 43rd and
Xavier Engleton (38:24) finished 43rd. The Tigers placed fourth out of five teams, finishing 42 points ahead of Bluefield State College and just 15 points behind Charleston. Event host Concord won the team title.
