One day after becoming the Salem University men's water polo all-time career goal-scoring leader, added eight more goals to his total as the Tigers concluded regular season and Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference play with a 24-13 victory over Washington and Jefferson College Sunday at New London, Conn. Popovic scored 16 goals in three games this weekend to give him 289 for his career.

Salem (9-9, 4-2 MAWPC) broke away from an early 1-1 tie and never looked back. Popovic and
Petar Leontijevic combined for five goals in a 6-0 run to take the lead for good.
Michael Rojas's goal with 1:40 left in the first half gave the Tigers a seven-goal lead before two late goals brought the Presidents within 9-4 at halftime.

Salvador Orozco highlighted a 5-1 run to open the third period and give Salem a 14-5 advantage. The Tigers took their first double-digit lead at 19-9 on Hudson's goal with 5:31 left in the fourth period. The lead grew to as many as 12 and Popovic and
Alvaro Leon Parra scored the game's final two goals after Washington and Jefferson cut the margin back down to single digits.

Rojas finished with five goals for Salem and shared game-high honors with Tiger goalkeeper
Julen Alonso with five assists, who also recorded 12 assists. Popovic added three assists for a game-high 10 points.

Next weekend, Salem is the No. 2 seed and plays host to the 2019 CWPA (College Water Polo Association) Division II Men's Water Polo Eastern Championship. The two-day round-robin tournament includes top-seeded Gannon University, No. 3 seed McKendree University and No. 4 seed Mercyhurst University.
