ERIE, Pa. – The Salem University women's tennis team knocked off No. 3 in the NCAA Atlantic Region Mercyhurst 5-2, Tuesday.
Salem currently sits at No. 6 in the Atlantic Region and this is one of the biggest wins is women's tennis's history at Salem.
"The girls deserved this win. Coming to Mercyhurst against the #3 ranked team (Atlantic Region) is a big task and they crushed it. The mental toughness of my girls was off the charts today. Mercyhurst has one of the best coaches in all of college tennis and his teams are very difficult to defeat. My girls are fighters," head coach

Salem started off strong as it earned the doubles point with No. 1 doubles freshman
Julia Piatek and freshman
Ana Kunic downing Frost and Roupan 7-5, while at No. 3 doubles freshman
Karolina Glowinska and sophomore
Kristina Vuksanovic defeated Jahr and Wenzel 6-4.
In singles, at No. 1 Piatek earned a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Frost, while at No. 2 Kunic claimed a win over Roupan 7-5, 6-4.
Glowinska picked up a hard-earned win at No. 3 defeating Plecevic 7-6, 6-7, 6-1, while freshman
Iryna Rusyn won 6-2, 7-5 over Tsagkaraki at No. 4 singles.
Women's tennis is back in action Sunday as it travels to Winston-Salem State for a matched slated for 2:00 p.m.
