FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Salem University women's tennis team swept Fayetteville State 7-0, Monday afternoon.
In doubles, sophomore
Brianna Vasquez and freshman
Julia Piatek defeated Jackson and Clark at No. 1 6-1, while freshman
Ana Kunic and freshman
Karolina Glowinska downed Crosby and Williams 6-0 at No. 2 and at No. 3 sophomore
Kristina Vuksanovic and freshman
Iryna Rusyn won 6-1 over Harris and Maltock.
For singles, Piatek claimed victory over Jackson 6-0, 6-1 at No.1, while at No. 2 singles Kunic swept Cosby 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 3 singles, Glowinska earned the win over Clark 6-0, 6-1, as at No. 4 singles Rusyn swept Woblen 6-0, 6-0.
Vasquez notched the win over Gladden 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, while Vuksanovic earned the sweep over Doss 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
"The girls are a coach's dream, they are students of the game and listen to everything I say, they are very coachable athletes. Their mental toughness was huge all through our lineup. They played with a purpose on every point and earned a big win for Salem," stated head coach
Todd Tucker.
Salem is back in action Tuesday, March 5 as it travels to Mars Hill for a match set at 2:00 p.m.
