NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Salem University women's tennis started the 2019 spring season off with an impressive 4-3 win over Walsh, Sunday.
Three individuals picked up a win, along with Salem earning the doubles point with two wins.
At No. 1 singles, freshman
Julia Piatek defeated Walsh's No. 1 Katarina Razum 6-2, 6-3 while, freshman
Ana Kunic defeated Walsh's Maria Kacalova 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Freshman
Karolina Glowinska secured Salem's victory with her win at No. 3 singles as she defeated Clara Drasch 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles, Glowinska and Kunic defeated Razum and Kacalova, 7-6, (8-6) while Piatek and sophomore
Kristina Vuksanovic downed Walsh's Nicole Beidacki and Parvanee Karimpour, 7-6, (7-5).
"The girls played very well today and had to because Walsh is a very tough team. The doubles matches were huge as the girls pulled both out in tiebreakers," stated head coach
Todd Tucker. "We stole one at Walsh today and it feels good to get a win. All the credit goes to the girls. "Dr." Brent and his staff played a huge role and without them, it couldn't get done. Wow, what a great match!"
Salem is back in action Sunday with a match against West Virginia State at 4:00 p.m.
