MARS HILL, N.C. – The Salem University women's tennis team over-powered Mars Hill 7-0, Tuesday afternoon.
In doubles, sophomore
Brianna Vasquez and freshman
Julia Piatek defeated Lake and Launay 6-3 at No. 1, while freshman
Karolina Glowinska and freshman
Ana Kunic downed Pelaez and Franklin 6-0 at No. 2. The Tigers also got a default win in doubles over Mars Hill.
For singles, Piatek beat Lake 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. At No. 2, Kunic claimed victory over Pelaez in three sets 3-6, 6-0, 6-1.
Glowinska notched a win over Launay 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, while freshman
Iryna Rusyn earned a win against Franklin at No. 4 6-2, 6-0. No. 5 in the singles competition was won by sophomore
Kristina Vuksanovic over Horner 6-0, 7-5.
"The girls once again had to battle the elements of a cold windy day, but kept focused on all courts and pulled through," stated head coach
Todd Tucker. "I can't point to one girl as they are all playing well, defining a team. I tell them constantly, 'there is no I in TEAM.'"
The women move to 7-2 on the season as they travel to Colombia, S.C. to take on Benedict College, Sunday, March 17.
