GENEVA, Ohio –The Salem University women's water polo team defeated No. 9 seed Mercyhurst in a thrilling 7-6 match in the 2019 WWPA Championships, Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Tigers sit at 14-13 overall.
The Tigers and Mercyhurst each totaled 30 shots, while Salem posted a .223 shooting percentage to Mercyhurst's .200.

Annefleur ten Bloemendal each recorded one goal, as Antoniou notched one assist.
Salem found its self down 2-0 at the end of the first period but fought its way back as it tied the game 2-2 at the break.
The Tigers and Mercyhurst each recorded three goals in the third period as they were knotted 5-5 heading into the final period of play. Salem outscored Mercyhurst 2-1 in the final period to secure the win.
The win earns the Tigers a spot in the fifth-place game against No. 8 Cal State Monterey Bay at 9:30 a.m.
