O'FALLON. Ill. –The Salem University women's water polo team swept the day as it defeated Monmouth 18-10 in game one and downed McKendree 14-9, Saturday afternoon.
With the two wins today, Salem is 11-12 overall with five-straight wins.
In game one, freshman
Margherita Garibbo led the way with five goals and three assists, while freshman
Erin Zappia and classmate
Annefleur ten Bloemendal each notched 4 goals as Zappia also added three assists.
Junior
Maryanna Antoniou and freshman
Chloe Woodbine each posted two goals apiece, while freshman
Beatrice Popescu added one goal.
The Tigers held a slim 8-7 lead at intermission and led just 11-9 at the end of the third period. Salem erupted in the fourth period as it outscored Monmouth 7-1 for the 18-10 win.

Philippa Piper blocked 15 shots and allowed 10 goals.
In game two, the Tigers were led by Garibbo as she netted a game-high seven goals, while ten Bloemendal connected on five goals.
Popescu and Antoniou each added one goal.
The Tigers attempted 29 shots, with a shooting percentage of .483, while McKendree attempted 31 shots with a shooting percentage of .290.
Piper notched 15 saves and allowed just nine goals with a .625 save percentage.
The Tigers led McKendree 6-2 at the end of two periods played, while they went off for seven goals in period three for a 13-6 advantage.
Salem is back in the pool tomorrow as it faces off against Mercyhurst at 9:00 a.m. CT and Carthage at 12:30 p.m. CT.
