SALEM, W.VA. –
Siya Mfusi assisted on the first two goals and Salem University recorded its second shutout in its last three matches as the Tigers shut out University of Pikeville 4-0 in men's soccer Wednesday at Catalano Stadium. Salem's defense limited the Bears to four shots and Tiger goalkeeper
Luis Felipe Ramirez recorded saves on all four shots. The Tigers have allowed only one goal in their last 270 minutes of play.

Salem (1-3-1) broke a scoreless tie at the 19:20 mark when Mfusi captured a loose ball in the box and passed to
Mark Ferenczi-Bako, who shot from 12 yards out. The Pikeville goalkeeper appeared to make the stop, but the ball came loose and rolled into the goal. The Tigers outshot the Bears 8-1 in the first half and went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

The Tigers added to their lead eight minutes into the second half when Mfusi crossed the ball into the box from the left side.
Bas De Waal put home a 15-yarder to extend Salem's lead to 2-0.

A Pikeville foul in the box led to Salem's first penalty kick of the season.
Nicholas Booysen converted the pk to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead at the 63:37 mark.

Pikeville (2-2-1) had its best scoring chance in the 72nd minute when Eric Bernabeu got open in the box for a pair of short-range shots. Martinez blocked both shot attempts to preserve the shutout.

The Tigers closed out the scoring at 86:16 when
Andrea Morelli served from just above the box. Daniele Malinconico scored from right-to-left, touching off a raucous celebration in the stands and on the Tiger bench.

Salem finished with a season-high 21 shots, including 13 on goal. Pikeville goalkeeper Anibal Navarrro recorded nine saves.

Wednesday's match was Salem's first home contest since its season opener. The Tigers are back on the road Saturday as Salem travels to Elkins, W.Va., to take on Davis and Elkins College. Match time is 7 p.m.
