Men's Soccer Falls To Davis And Elkins 3-1

Box Score Mark Ferenczi-Bako scored the first goal of the contest for the second consecutive match, but Salem University was unable to hold on as the Tigers fell to Davis and Elkins College 3-1 in NCAA Division II men's soccer Saturday at Elkins, W.Va. The loss ended Salem's streak of three consecutive matches allowing one goal or fewer.

Salem (1-4-1) struck first when Ferenczi-Bako found the upper 90 at the 6:31 mark to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead. But that would be Salem's lone shot of the first half.

Davis and Elkins (2-2) evened the match at 26:59 on a goal by Jens Ovreseth from six yards out. The two teams went into halftime tied 1-1.

A goal off of a set piece at the 51:50 mark broke the tie and put the Senators on top to stay. Davis and Elkins added a breakaway goal with 25 seconds left in the match for the final margin.

Luis Felipe Ramirez finished with five saves in goal for Salem, which was outshot 14-4 for the match. The Tigers had to play most of the final 13 minutes a man down after a pair of individual yellow cards. The last two minutes were played even after an accumulation of two Senator individual yellow cards.

Salem is off until next Saturday when the Tigers play host to Slippery Rock University. Match time is 3 p.m. at Catalano Stadium.
