Salem University heads to the South and (hopefully) to warmer temperatures as the Tigers open their 2020 softball season this weekend. The Tigers play doubleheaders Saturday at Winston-Salem State University and Sunday at Virginia Union University. First pitch both days is noon.

Pitcher/utility player
Rosey Romick is among eight seniors on this year's Tiger squad. Romick ranked No. 20 in the nation with a .449 batting average and earned All-Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention in 2019. She also had 20 runs batted in.
Senior catcher
Sydney McPherson was next in batting with a .368 average, followed by sophomore outfielder
Kimberly Reckling with a .351 average. Senior pitcher/designated player
Christine Bombardiere batted .328 and led the Tigers with five home runs and 27 rbi.
Romick and fellow seniors
Morgan Atkinson and
Breanna Jimenez played and started in all 42 games last season. Atkinson and Romick tied for the team lead in stolen bases with nine apiece.
In the circle, Bombardiere and Romick combined for 36 starts in 42 games last year. Bombardiere recorded 82 strikeouts, while Romick had 49.
Also playing in their senior season are infielders
Emily Gonzalez and
Chyann Hooker, and utility player
Ki Johnson.
Salem has two more doubleheaders on the road next week and then play host to Washington Adventist March 2 in the Tigers' home opener.
