Regionally third-ranked Salem University captured the doubles point and won the first three singles matches as the Tigers went on to open the 2020 season with a 5-2 victory over regional No. 10 Bloomsburg University in NCAA Division II women's tennis Friday at Morgantown, W.Va. The match was played at the indoor courts at Summit Tennis Academy.

Salem (1-0) took the early lead as
Karolina Glowinska and
Ana Kunic posted a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. Glowinska and Kunic are ranked No. 8 in the Atlantic Region in women's doubles.
Shivani Kaligotla and
Iryna Rusyn followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Kunic, who is ranked No. 6 in the region in women's singles, posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 singles flight. Glowinska, the No.2-ranked women's singles player in the region, followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.

The Tigers clinched the team win as Kaligotla served multiple aces on her way to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles. Rusyn won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, while
Rose Godard played an eight-game pro set at No. 5 singles with the team result already decided.

Friday's contest was the first Division II loss this year for Bloomsburg (4-2), which won all four of its fall matches before falling to Division I Niagara University earlier in February.

Salem begins its Spring Break trip Friday at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. The Tigers then travel to Hilton Head Island, S.C. to compete in the PTR Spring Tennis Fest.
