Women's Water Polo Opens Play Today At Grove City Invite

The Salem University women's water polo team spends its fifth consecutive weekend in the Keystone State as the Tigers travel to Grove City, Pa., to compete in the Grove City Invite. The Tigers play two games today and a single game Saturday morning.

Saturday
8 a.m. vs. Mercyhurst Live Stats

Salem (9-7) opens play this afternoon at 3 p.m. against Invite host Grove City College (1-3). The contest marks the first meeting this season between the Tigers and the Wolverines, although both teams competed in last weekend's Washington and Jefferson Invitational.

The Tigers then take on Virginia Military Institute at 6:45 p.m. The two teams are meeting for the third consecutive weekend. The Keydets posted a pair of come-from-behind victories over the Tigers, 14-12 two weeks ago and 10-9 in overtime last weekend.

Salem wraps up tournament play Saturday with an early wake-up call for an 8 a.m. non-conference match-up against fellow WWPA member Mercyhurst University. The Tigers posted a 4-0 record against the Lakers last season, including a 7-6 victory in the WWPA Tournament. Saturday's contest is the first of three regular season meetings between the two teams.

Salem offset two overtime losses last weekend with a pair of season-high scoring outputs at the Washington and Jefferson Invitational. The Tigers defeated Washington and Jefferson College 26-6 and posted a 25-8 victory over Penn State University-Behrend. Prior to last weekend, the Tigers had not scored more than 18 goals in a game since women's water polo was reinstated at Salem in 2019.

Salem will add a second state to its "places visited in 2020" collection next weekend as the Tigers travel to Boston, Mass., to compete in the Harvard Invite.
