Philippa Piper recorded 13 saves as Salem University defeated Division I Iona College 14-3 in women's water polo at the Harvard Invite in Cambridge, Mass. The two-day tournament was hosted by Harvard University.

The Tigers settled for a split on the day after falling to nationally 25th-ranked California State University-East Bay 17-7. Salem also split its two games Saturday, defeating national poll vote-getter Brown University and falling to Siena College.

Salem (13-10) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage on goals by ten Bloemendal and
Chloe Woodbine and the Tigers led wire-to-wire. The Tigers extended their lead to 5-1 in the second period after a penalty shot by
Erin Zappia and a power play goal by ten Bloemendal.

Iona pulled within 6-3 at halftime, but Salem outscored the Gaels 8-0 in the second half.
Courtney O'Shaughnessy and
Beatrice Popescu scored two goals apiece in the third period, while four different players scored in the final period.

Margherita Garibbo, O'Shaughnessy, Popescu, Woodbine and Zappia each finished with two goals. Zappia added three assists and Garibbo had five steals.

Against Cal State-East Bay,
Maryanna Antoniou's goal tied the game 1-1, but the Pioneers scored the next three goals to go on top to stay. Sunday's contest was a rematch of the first round of last year's WWPA Tournament.

Salem has next weekend off and then plays a pair of games March 21 in the Wittenburg Invite at Springfield, Ohio.
