Box Score 2 Salem University Volleyball fell to Concord University on Thursday 3-0 and Bluefield State College 3-1 on Friday.
Athens, WV - The Tigers fell to the Mountain Lions in three sets 25-20, 25-18, and 25-20. After falling behind early, the Tigers tied it up 7-7 off a Concord error. Salem tried to rally late, scoring off back-to-back errors from Concord and a kill by Tahnee Gerard before falling in the first set.
The Tigers started set two strong with an ace by Makhia Hinton before Concord tied it up 1-1. A kill by Hinton put the Tigers back in the lead 2-1. Â Concord answered back and maintained the lead for the rest of the set.
The Tigers had two back-to-back kills by Alycia Rivera and Nakyia Middleton to begin the third set. The Mountain Lions scored five consecutive points to take the 5-2 lead. A kill by Middleton started a three-point run to pull the Tigers within three. Anna Veryser scored the final Tiger point before the Mountain Lions took the third set 25-20.
Bluefield, WV – The Tigers took the first set 25-19 against the Big Blues before falling 25-20, 27-25, 25-15. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in set one 5-1 lead by a kill from Danielle Burns. The Tigers maintained that lead for the entire set finishing it with a kill from Middleton and two aces from Elise Burk.
After falling behind early in set two, the Tigers scored five consecutive to pull within four. The Tigers attempted to rally late with an error from Bluefield State and a kill by Hinton before Bluefield scored the final two points of the set.
The Tigers started set three strong scoring the first six points in a row. The Big Blues later took the 16-15 lead off of an ace before Burns tied it up with a kill. After back-and-forth play, the set tied at 17-17, 20-20, 21-21, 22-22, 23-23, 24-24, and 25-25 before the Big Blues scored the final two points to take the set.
The Big Blues came out strong in the fourth set jumping out to an early lead 12-6. The Tigers pulled within two by two Bluefield State errors and two kills by Veryser and Hinton before falling in the final set of the night.
