Salem, WV- Salem University swim hosted West Virginia Tech and West Virginia Wesleyan in a tri-match on Friday. The women's team came out on top of WVU Tech 172-40 and WV Wesleyan 132-116. The men fell to WVU Tech 140-108 but took WV Wesleyan 171-61.
The women's team came away with seven first place finishes on the day with Jaden Welsh with two in the 100-yard Backstroke (1:03.27) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.97). Katherine Turner finished with a time of 34.36 in the 50-yard Breaststroke, Lauren Platz with a time of 30.14 in the 50-yard backstroke, Sofia Castillo at 57.15 in the 100-yard freestyle and Ivani Kamidoi in the 500-yard Freestyle at 5.55.19.
Both the women's and men's team came away with the top two spots in the 200-yard relay. The women's team of Platz, Welsh, Castillo and Veronica Bolibaugh took first (1:57.59) and Shayla Smith, Cami Rowan, Kamidoi and Turner in second at 2.02.75. The men's relay team in first consisted of Huascar Urbina - Fleytas, Fernando Gomez Perez, Greg Smith and Zach Bell (1:40.49) with the team of Austin Kephart, Jakub Husar, Ryan Knapp and Caden Huffman following at 1:45.74.
The men came away with four first place finishes with Greg Smith coming away with two in the 100-yard freestyle (50.76) and the 50-yard butterfly (25.06). Austin Kephart took first in the 50-yard backstroke (26.78) and Huscar Urbina in the 100-yard backstroke at 57.55.
