Fairmont, WV – The Tigers took down Bluefield State College 103-84 in their first game of the season in the Joe Retton Classic at Fairmont State University.

The Tigers opened up the game with a 10-0 run led by Tobias Howard Jr with five, Fonz Hale with three and Rodney Smith with two. The Big Blue pulled within four midway through the first half before Darius Bell answered with a Dunk to keep the scoring going for the Tigers.

The Tigers expanded their lead to 20 in the last minute of the first half with a layup by Tadeas Kapek, a fast break three from Howard and a last second dunk from Kapone Barley.

The Tigers kept the Big Blue at a distance for the remainder of the game only allowing them to get as close as 15. The Tigers went on an 8-0 run midway through the second half led by Barley. The Tigers expanded their lead to as many as 23 with two minutes remaining after a steal by Barron Tanner then a layup by Kapek.

Darius Bell came away with a double – double for the Tigers with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Including Bell, six Tigers scored in the double digits: Tobias Howard Jr with 19, Barron Tanner with 14, Stan Smith with 13 and Fonz Hale and Kapone Barley with 12.
