Box Score Fairmont, WV – Salem University men's basketball fell to Fairmont State University 71 - 52 in the final game of the Joe Retton Classic on Sunday.
Tobias Howard Jr and Fonz Hale led the scoring for the Tigers with 16, both going 4-7 from beyond the arc. Darius Bell led in rebounds for the Tigers with nine and added seven points.
Despite falling behind early, back-to-back threes from Howard put the Tigers on top midway through the first half 20-15. The Falcons later tied it up at 20 with a three of their own before Kapone Barley netted two from the line to put the Tigers back on top. The Falcons went on an 8-0 run to go ahead 28-22 with 3:26 left in the half. The Tigers were able to pull within five to go into the half trailing Fairmont State 34-29.
Fairmont State went on a 9-0 run early in the second half before Hale added three to stop the Falcon momentum at 45-34. The Tigers were able to cut the Falcons lead to ten with another Howard three in the 12th minute but couldn't overcome the double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
