Salem, WV – Salem University swim hosted Wheeling University on Saturday. The Tigers finished the day with 24 first place finishes. The men finished scored 190 to Wheeling's 17 with the women scoring 168 to 61.
On the men's side of things, Brady Samuels Fernando Gomez came away with first place in three events. Samuels in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.62), 100-yard freestyle (49.34), and 100-yard butterfly (53.72) and Gomez in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.27), 50- yard freestyle (23.21) and 200-yard individual medley (2:06.58). Zachary Bell and Tadeas Neliba both added two for the Tigers: Bell in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.77) and in the 50-yard freestyle (23.21) and Neliba in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:34.46) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.93). Huscar Urbina and Austin Kephart had one first place finish on the day in the 100-yard backstroke (59.07) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.62).
Sofia Castillo and Jaden Welsh led the Tigers with two first place events. Castillo in the 200-yard butterfly (2:22.18) and the 100-yard freestyle (58.87) and Welsh in the 50-yard freestyle (27.00) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.52). Four Tigers came away with one first place finish: Veronica Bolibaugh in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:21.99), Ivani Kamidoi in the 200-yard (2:12.42), Cami Rowan in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.92) and Lauren Platz in the 500-yard freestyle (5:53.50).
Four Tiger relay teams swam to first place: in the 400-yard medley relay Platz, Welsh, Castillo and Bolibaugh with a time of 4:20.78 and Urbina, Gomez, Samuels and Bell on the men's side with a time of 3:43.98. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the women's team of Kamidoi, Tori Fluharty, Morgan Riordan, and Katherine Turner with a time of 4:24.39 and the men's team of Caden Huffman, Mike Diaz, Greyson Campbell and Jakub Husar at 3:43.88.
