Box Score Salem, WV – Salem University women's basketball take down Alderson Broaddus University in season opener 121-110.
Daniela Quesada led the scoring for the Tigers with 27 followed by Kalyne Daniels with 21. Both Aleena Mongerie and Nerea Arambarri Fernandez contributed 18 with Vantanae Garrett adding 10. The Tigers shot 80 percent from the line and 42 percent from the field.
A three by Liliani Krause started a 9-0 run for the Tigers early in the first quarter to put the Tigers on top 11-4. The Battlers pulled within one with 49 seconds left in the quarter followed by a last second lay up from Fernandez to give the Tigers the 29-26 lead.
The Battlers tied it up three minutes into the second quarter at 31 then taking the four-point lead with back-to-back layups. The Tigers battle back to tie it up at 40 from a three by Quesada midway through the quarter. The Battlers put some distance between them and the Tigers going into the half on top 57-48.
A trip to the line from Daniels tied it up at 69 for the Tigers with three minutes left in the third quarter. A layup from Fernandez started a 6-0 run to give the Tigers the four-point lead. After a steal from Jamya Miller and three offensive rebounds, Fernandez would drain the three to put the Tigers ahead 78-73. The Battlers would score two late, to take the Tigers into the final quarter with the three-point lead.
The Tigers started the fourth with a layup by Mongerie and a corner three by Miller to go ahead by eight. The Tigers would take the double-digit lead from a layup by Allysa McRae. The Battlers would pull within two at 3:43 mark but could not get any closer the remainder of the game.
