Box Score Buckhannon, WV – Salem University women's basketball fall in a heartbreaker match up at West Virginia Wesleyan 78-77.
Daniela Quesada and Kalyne Daniels led the Tigers with 14 each followed by Nerea Arambarri Fernandez with 12 and Vantanae Garrett and Jordan Crace with ten. Aleena Mongerie and Daniels led the rebounding for the Tigers with 7 apiece.
At the 5:41 mark in the first quarter, Quesada found Garrett who drained the three to give the Tigers the four-point advantage. The Bobcats then went on a 9-0 run to take back the lead with three minutes remaining and into the end of the quarter 22-15. The Tigers cut the Bobcats lead to one twice in the second off a three by Crace and later a jumper by Quesada before the Bobcats went into the half ahead 39-37.
The Tigers tied it up early coming out of the half with a put back layup from Ixsamar Gonzalez. A steal by and fastbreak jumper by Quesada gave the Tigers their largest lead of the night at 54-47 with two minutes left in the third. Two back-to-back layups from the Bobcats cut the Tigers lead to two going into the final quarter.
The Bobcats quickly built a six-point lead coming into the quarter before the Tigers battled back to tie it up at 64. The Tigers went ahead by four before the Bobcats bounced back to bring it back to an even 68-68. The Tigers went back in the lead by one with 1:38 left after a steal by Kendra Stanford and a two-point basket from Daniels. A trip to the line for the Bobcats in the final 34 seconds gave them the one-point lead and the 78-77 victory over the Tigers.
