Box Score Owensboro, KY – Salem University men's basketball fall in a close contest at Kentucky Wesleyan College 81-80 on Monday.
Fonz Hale led the scoring for the Tigers with 23 followed by Stan Smith, in just 15 minutes of play, scoring 17. Darius Bell led the rebounding for the Tigers with six and Barron Tanner with four.
The Tigers took their first lead of the night (17-16) at the 11:42 mark with a jumper from S. Smith. After five lead changes in the remainder of the half, the Panthers scored eight consecutive to go into the half ahead 45-35.
The Tigers overcame the ten-point deficit in the 11th minute to tie it up 58-58 off a midrange jumper from Tobias Howard Jr. The Tigers took the one-point lead with five minutes remaining after Tanner found Howard for the three. The back-and-forth lead changes continued for the remainder of the half with the Panthers tying it up 80-80 with 37 seconds left. A trip to the line for the Panthers with two seconds remaining was enough to take down the Tigers 81-80.
