Charleston, WV – Salem University Volleyball competed in a Tri-Match with University of Charleston and Bluefield State College on Saturday. The Tigers fell to the Golden Eagles and the Big Blue in three sets.

In game one, the Tigers fell to the Golden Eagles 25-14, 25-11 and 25-14. The Tigers were led in kills by Danielle Burns, Nakyia Middleton, and Mykenzie Clyncke with four apiece. Danya Gomez- Salgado had 13 assists with Makhia Hinton contributing eight digs.

The Tigers dropped game two with scores of 25-19, 29-27, and 25-13. The Tigers struck first in set one with a kill by Anna Veryser before the Big Blue scored four to go ahead. A kill by Gomez-Salgado tied it up 5-5 before the Big Blue took back the lead and held it for the remainder of the set.

Back-to-back kills from Clyncke put the Tigers on top early in set two 4-3. After the Big Blue tied it up, Gomez-Salgado and Danea Pettway put the Tigers ahead by two. Later in set, the Tigers went on four point run to tie it up at 21. The Tigers continued to battle tying it up at 23, 25 and 27 before the Big Blue took set two.

After facing being down 3-0, the Tigers answered back putting three consecutive point up on the board. The Big Blue went on a five-point run followed by a four point run to put some distance between the two teams. The Tigers attempted to start the rally late in the set with a kill by Clyncke and an ace by Hinton before falling in the final set.
