Morgantown, WV – Salem University mens water polo competed in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo West Region Championships over the weekend. The Tigers went 2-1 on the weekend, claiming third place.
In game one, the Tigers fell to Gannon University 18-11. Chad Rowley led the scoring for the Tigers with three goals. Mike Diaz, Petar Leontijevic and Ivan Zivojinovic each contributed two with Nikola Krstonosic and Manuel Soto Estela adding one. Julen Alonso stopped 14 shots in the loss for the Tigers.
The Tigers bounced back in game two to take down Washington & Jefferson College 18-16 to advance to the third place game. Zivojinovic with six and Rowley with four combined for over half of the scoring for the Tigers. Diaz, Petar and Carson Hicks put in two each with Krstonosic and Estela rounding out the scoring with one.
The Tigers took down Mercyhurst University in game three 14-14, to take third in the MAWPC-West Region Championships. The Tigers were able to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Mercyhurst 7-4. Leontijevic led all scoring with seven followed by Krstonosic with five. Rowley finished with a pair and Blake Wind, Zivojinovic and Saequan Miller with one apiece. Goalkeeper Duarte Costa had 18 saves on the day.
Three Tigers earned honors at the MAWPC- West Region Championships. Nikola Krstonosic was named Rookie of the Tournament and Second Team All-Tournament. Ivan Zivojinovic and Chad Rowley both earned First Team All-Tournament.
