Box Score Salem, WV - Salem University men's basketball fell against Virginia Union University 75-72 on Friday at home.
Tobias Howard Jr. led all scorers with 22 points followed by Fonz Hale with 17. Rodney Smith led the rebounding for the Tigers with seven, also contributing ten points on the night.
The Tigers took their first lead of the night at the 12:28 mark with a fastbreak layup from Hale. After back-and-forth scoring, the Tigers scored the last four points through a jumper from Darius Bell and a layup from Barron Tanner to go into the half ahead 42-36.
The Tigers built their lead to 15 midway through the second half after two free throws from R. Smith. The Panthers fought back within one with three minutes remaining and again at the two-minute mark. The Panther had two trips to the line in the final 40 seconds to come away with the 75-72 win over the Tigers.
