Box Score Salem, WV – Salem University women's basketball fell to Mercyhurst University 72-61 at home on Thursday.
Nerea Arambarri Fernanadez led the scoring for the Tigers with 16 followed by Daniela Quesada with 14. Kendra Standford secured the double-double on the night with 11 points and ten rebounds.
After falling behind early, a three from Fernandez got the scoring started for the Tigers followed by a fastbreak three from Teyarra Johnson to pull within four with two minutes left in the first quarter. The Lakers scored the last four of the quarter to take the 15-8 lead into the second. The Tigers closed out the second scoring six consecutive points through free throws to cut the Lakers lead to four before the half.
The Tigers pulled within one at the seven-minute mark in the third after a put back layup from Stanford before the Lakers built their lead to eight going into the final quarter. The Tigers fought back within two of the Lakers twice in the final quarter but could not overcome the deficit, falling 72-61.
