Bloomington, IN- Salem University Women's Water Polo closed out their opening weekend of the season on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers played tough against Division I competition in back to back days, but ultimately dropped the two games on Sunday to start the season 0-4.
Salem started off the day against Saint Francis University. Salem for the second day in a row would not back down against SFU, forcing 5 of their 7 goals in the fourth quarter. Margarita Garibbo led the team in scoring with 2 goals, while
Philippa Piper recorded 11 saves in goal. Salem dropped the match 12-7.
The Tigers squared off against Indiana University who finished last season 13-5 in the second game of the day. Salem fell 17-4. Annefleur ten Bloemendal notched 2 of her 7 goals on the weekend against IU.
Salem found success in crunch time during the opening weekend, scoring 17 of their 25 goals in the final quarter. Womens Water Polo will return to the pool on February 14th when they have a rematch against Saint Francis University. The game will be played at the Mylan Acquatics Center in Morgantown, WV.
