Salem, WV - The Glenville Pioneers visited the Salem Tigers on Tuesday evening to faceoff in their first of two meetings for the 2021 season.  

Location: T. Edward Davis Gymnasium – Salem, WV  

When: Tuesday, September 14th   

Final Score: Salem 3, Glenville State 2 (24-26, 9-25, 25-21, 25-16, 20-18)   

Records: Salem 1-7, Glenville State 1-2  

How It happened:   

• After dropping the first two sets, the Tigers came back strong in the third set with an early advantage of 15-7 after two back – to – back kills by Dayana Gomez – Salgado and Danielle Burns.   

• The Tigers then went on to score four consecutive points starting with a Pioneer miscue, two ace serves by Mykenzie Clyncke and a kill by Yesenia Munoz to pull away 19-10 with the final point of the set coming from a Glenville error.   

• Two kills by Burns and an Ace by Sydney Goodrich helped get the Tigers on the board early in the fourth set 6-1.   

• Burns, with two kills, led the way for the Tigers to score five in a row to extend their lead 19-11.  

• The Tigers secured set four 25-16 with an ace by Yesenia Munoz.   

• The final set of the night became a tug of war for the lead consisting of five lead changes and 13 ties.  

• The Tigers found themselves with a 13-10 lead, but the Pioneers answered back to tie it up 13-13.   

• The game would be tied five more times before Anna Veryser and Alycia Rivera produced back to back kills to get the final two points of the match to come away with the 20-18 set victory sealing the match and marking the first victory of the season.
