ERIE, Pennsylvania - Today was a successful one for our men's water polo team who walked away from day one of the Penn State-Behrend Invitational with two wins out of their two games played.
Salem 18, Washington & Jefferson 14
The start of the first game saw the Tigers fall behind W&Jt as the quarter time score showing 2-6. The Tigers were faced with an aggressive attack and defense combination from their opponents. However, they kept calm and continued to adjust their strategies during the first period. This led to the half time score being 9-8 favoring Salem. Even though W&J refused to back down, the momentum that the Tigers created during the second period was carried out through the rest of the game which brought the final score to 18-14 favoring Salem. Ivan Zivojinovic tallied 6 goals for the Tigers, Nikola Krstonosic added 3 goals and 5 assists, Chad Rowley and Manuel Soto Estela also put up 3 goals for the team.
Salem 22, Penn State-Behrend 18
The Tigers came out with much bigger energy for their second game of the day against the host team Penn State-Behrend. After some relentless offense and a very tight defensive strategy, the first half the score was 14-3 to the Tigers. PS-B made a decent come back in the back half of the game, but it was not enough to match the lead that Salem had set at the beginning of the game, the end score being 18-22. Saequan Miller led the Tiger with a total of 4 goals, 1 drawn exclusion and 1 steal. Blake Wind also tallied 4 goals and 1 steal for the Tigers. Nikola Krstonosic added three goals and 4 assists.
