SALEM, West Virginia - In a continued effort to showcase the legacy of Salem athletics through the years, the Salem athletics department is unveiling the December feature covering one former Tiger student-athlete and their achievements after their time here at Salem. The first subject of this spotlight is Dorian A. James. He is pictured here, on the right, participating in the Salem Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony in October of 2022.

Dorian made his way to Salem during the transition period from Salem College to Salem Teikyo University. He played basketball for the Tigers in 1987, 1989, and 1990. A successful player on the court and a leader in the locker room, , he was named to the Joe Manchin All-Tournament Team and served as team captain during his time at Salem. He graduated in 1991 with a degree in Youth and Human Services and earned a 3.7 Grade Point average.

After his time at Salem, Dorian began a career in the human services industry. He went on to earn a master's degree from West Virginia University in 2005 in communications. Today, he works for the State of West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services' Bureau of Social Services based out of the state capital in Charleston.

As part of our spotlight interview, James was asked about what his time as a Salem Tiger meant to him, and this was his response:

"Being a student athlete most of my life, I always valued the competition and team aspects of sports. My experience at Salem allowed me to continue to enjoy that environment and build many meaningful lifelong relationships."

Salem Athletics would like to thank Dorian James for all his contributions to Salem, our school, and our student-athletes.
