SALEM, West Virginia - Salem university traveled to Wheeling, WV on Friday to match up against Wheeling University. Both the men and women were successful placing first over wheeling. The women's team scores were Salem – 85, Wheeling – 77 and the Salem men racked up 135 points to Wheeling's 16.
For the women's side
Jaden Welsh had a pair of first place finishes, one in the 200 yd IM (2:13:63) and one in the 500 yd Freestyle (5:38:00).
Cheyanne Rohde also finished 1
st in the 50 yd Freestyle (25:95) and also in the 100 yd Fly with a time of (1:01:43).
Sofia Castillo finished 1
st in the 200 yd Freestyle with a time of 2:05:48 and
Katherine Turner placed 1
st in the 100 Yd Backstroke. For the Men,
Brady Samuels finished 1
st in the 200 Yd IM (2:00:80) and 1
st in the 100 Yd Freestyle (48:47). Fernando Gomez also had two 1
st place finishes, one in the 200 Yd Freestyle (1:52:11) and one in the 100 Yd Butterfly (56:42).
Jakub Husar was the last of the man to tally two more 1
st place finishes, In the 1650 Yd Freestyle he came in at 17:51:75 and in the 500 Yd Free his time was 5:04:92.
Salem Vs. Davis & Elkins
On Saturday night the Tigers were host to Davis & Elkins College for their senior night. That evening the men's swim team beat D&E 150 points to 94 which puts their season at an 8-0 record. The women put up a fight however D&E had outnumbered them and they fell short 110 points to D&E's 125.
For the men,
Brady Samuels had a trio of first place finishes in the 100 Yd Fly (52:30), the 50 Yd Freestyle (21:55) and the 200 Yd Fly (1:58:73).
Jakub Husar had 2 first place finishes in the 1000 Yd Freestyle (10:40:55) and the 500 Yd Free (5:07:13). Fernando Gomez tallied two first place finishes in the 200 Yd IM (2:02:14) and the 200 Breast (2:13:76). Joan Cortadellas finished 1
st in the 100 Freestyle (48:24) and Zachary Bell placed 1
st in the 200 Freestyle (1:49:57). For the women
Sofia Castillo Place first in 3 events, the 100 Yd Fly (1:02:97), the 200 Yd Freestyle (2:05:48) and the 200 Fly (2:20:89).
Cheyanne Rohde also had a trio of first place finishes in the 100 Yd Back (1:02:64), the 50 Yd Free (25:89) and the 100 Free (57:97).
Jaden Welsh rounded out the first-place finishers with 3 of her own in the 100 Yd Breastroke (1:07:79) the 200 Yd Backstroke (2:12:71) and the 200 Breastroke (2:29:75).
The tigers only have 2 more meets before their conference championships in February, their next meet taking place against Frostburg State University in Maryland.
