Last weekend the Salem women's water polo team traveled to Indiana University to compete against Occidental College, University of the Pacific, California Baptist University and Indiana University. The tigers defeated Occidental in their first game but were unable to do the same for the next three games.
In the first game against Occidental the tigers came out of the gate strong scoring 5 goals to occidentals 1. They kept this momentum going and at half time the score was 4-10. At the end of the game Salem's lead was too much to catch and the game score ended at 8-19 to Salem. Sophomore
Emma Halle tallied an impressive 7 goals in this game,
Shemiyah Ross and
Courtney O'Shaughnessy both added 4 to the board,
Courtney Repinz put two in the back of the net and Freshmen
Claudia Cziernawski and
Emma Donnelly both added 1 goal.
The tigers games against the University of the Pacific proved to be more difficult. In the opening quarter UoP scored 6 goals before Salem could get on the board and at half time the score was 3-11 to UoP. After this half the tigers tightened up their defence and only allowed another 4 goals in the game and scored 2 leaving the final score at 5-15.
Courtney O'Shaughnessy put away 3 goals,
Iris Oudshoorn and
Morgan Riordan also put a goal on the board.
The tigers first game on Sunday was against California Baptist University. In the opening quarter Salem put up 2 goals to Cal Baptists 5. At half time the tigers were doing their best to stay in the game and the score showed 5-10. Salem tied the third quarter scoring 5 goals to Cal Baptists 5 taking the score to 15-10. However, Salem was unable to hang on and the final score of the game showed 22-12. Both

Courtney O'Shaughnessy scored 4 goals,
Emma Halle tallied 3 and
Courtney Repinz scored 1.
Salem's final game against Indiana proved to be their toughest of the weekend. In the opening half the tigers were only able to put away 1 goal to IU's 9. The tigers scored 4 in the second half and the end score showed 5-22 to IU.
Courtney O'Shaughnessy scored 2 goals,
Emma Halle,
Morgan Riordan and
Sierra Maze all added 1 goal to the board.
Women's water polo is back on the road today, traveling to their grove city invite where they will play off against Penn State Behrend, Washington and Jefferson College and Grove City.
