LEXINGTON, Virginia – On Friday the Salem women's water polo team traveled to Lexington VA for their season opener against Virginia Military Institute. The tigers were successful in taking down VMI this morning leading the game from the 1
st quarter onwards. VMI opened the game scoring a goal in the first 25 seconds, however Salem was quick to respond and ended the 1
st quarter 4 – 3 to the tigers. At half time Salem led by 4 goals (10 – 6) and despite their efforts VMI was unable to make a comeback leaving the end score 16 – 12 to Salem.

This morning's game showed a great joint effort from the tigers. Leading on the points board was the two South African players, freshman
Courtney Repinz and senior
Courtney O'Shaughnessy. Repinz tallied 3 goals from 3 shots, 3 assists and one steal while O'Shaughnessy had 4 goals and 2 assists. Sophomore
Emma Halle scored 2 goals, had 3 assists and one drawn exclusion on the board.
Shemiyah Ross and
Keri Brooks both put up 2 goals and 1 assist each, Ross also had 3 steals.
Iris Oudshoorn added 2 goals,
Jojo DeSalvo,
Morgan Riordan and
Claudia Cziernawski all tallied 1 goal and
Sierra Maze put up one assist.

This was a great start to the season for the young team and should put them in good standings for their next weekend of games. On the 11
th of February the tigers will be competing at Bucknell University against Villanova, LIU and Saint Francis University.
