Women's Water Polo Erin Zappia

Salem Goes 0-3 at ASU Invite

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TEMPE, Arizona – The Salem Women's water polo team headed west last week to attend the Arizona State University invite. The girls went up against some tough top 20 competition as their three games were against Marist College, Arizona State University and Harvard. This would have been great experience for the women before they head into their conference games in the beginning of April.
 
The tigers first match up of the weekend was against Marist college. Jojo DeSalvo opened up the scoring in the first quarter for Salem and freshman Iris Oudshoorn also put one on the board in the 1st quarter which left Salem trailing 2-8 to Marist. Keri Brooks and Emma Halle each netted a goal before half time  taking the score to 4-10. Brooks kept the momentum going tallying another 2 goals in the third quarter taking her total to 3 goals and the score to 6-16. In the last quarter Claudia Cziernawski and Courtney O' Shaughnessy each found the back of the net and the game ended 8-19. Salem throughout the game was able to draw a massive 14 exclusions which is a great effort from the offence.
 
The tigers second game of the weekend was against the home team, Arizona State University. The first quarter of the game left the tigers scoreless, however freshmen Keri Brooks and Iris Oudshoorn scored back to back goals in the second quarter which left the halftime score 2-10 to ASU. In the second half of the game Courtney O' Shaughnessy found the back of the net twice and Emma Donnelly added a goal to the board leaving the final score 5-24 to the home side.
 
Salem's final game of the weekend was against Harvard University. The tigers had a really strong opening quarters against the crimsons, Keri Brooks netted 2 goals and Emma Halle also added a goal to the board which left Salem trailing Harvard 3-4. The tigers went scoreless in quarter 2 however in the third Brooks scored another 2 goals and Shemiyah Ross also added 2 to the board taking the score to 7-16. In the last quarter Courtney Repinz, Shemiyah Ross and Alexis Kilgore all added 1 goal each taking the final score to 10-21.
 
This would have been a weekend full of great experiences for our tigers. Their next appearance will be on home turf at the Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport, WV for their first home game and senior night against Grove City.
