SALEM, West Virginia - With both Salem men's and women's basketball wrapping up their seasons with wins over the same opponent in Bluefield State, it seems fitting that they enter the postseason on similar footing. They do just that as both teams have been selected as 4 seeds in the USCAA Division I Men's and Women's Basketball National Championships held in Richmond, Virginia. Let's preview their matchups:
Salem vs. Bryant & Stratton - Albany (WBB: 3/12 at 8 PM at Virginia State)
For the women's first round matchup, they will have off with the #5 seed Bryant & Stratton - Albany Bobcats. Based out of Albany, New York, the Bobcats come into the tournament at 11-8 and competed an almost complete USCAA schedule. The only common opponent for both squads was Central Pennsylvania College, whom the Tigers defeated handily and the Bobcats fell to early in the season.
Salem vs. Bryant & Stratton - Syracuse (MBB: 3/13 at 4 PM at Virginia State)
On the men's side, it is a very similar situation. Another branch campus of Bryant & Stratton College is the opponent, but this time it is Syracuse, New York. These Bobcats come into the event 17-7 with a heavy USCAA schedule. There are a few more common opponents this time with both teams playing Bryant & Stratton - Buffalo, and Washington Adventist. Salem defeated Buffalo once, and split with Adventist, and the Bobcats lost 2 games to both teams.
With these new postseason opportunities on the docket, both Salem basketball programs should be excited for a great performance against some tough competition down in Virginia. Both teams are set to play on March 13th. The men's contest is set to tip at 4 PM at Virginia State, and the women's contest will tip at 8 PM the same day on the same floor at Virginia State.
