Salem Takes 2 Wins in Conference Weekend

The tigers played host to their east coast conference schools this weekend at Mylan Park Aquatic Centre in Morgantown this weekend. Mercyhurst, Gannon, Salem and McKendree all competed against each other for their last round of conference games before their championship. Salem won 2 games against Mercyhurst and Gannon but were unable to take down McKendree this weekend.

The tigers opening game of the weekend was against Mercyhurst whom they had previously lost to the weekend before. This had given the tigers some drive however as they came out firing this game. The first half of the game was hard fought by each team and was tied at 5-5 half time. In the third quarter both teams scored 3 goals to keep it tied at 8-8. However, Salem just outscored the lakers in the last quarter finishing the game 12-10. Shemiyah Ross led the team in scoring with 5 goals, 2 assists and 2 field blocks. Emma Halle, Kerri Brooks and Emma Donnelly scored 2 goals apiece and Taeghen Hack put on in the back of the net. Claudia Cziernawski had 4 field blocks, 4 drawn exclusions and three assists.

Game 2 of the day proved to be a more difficult one for the tigers as they faced the McKendree bearcats who are undefeated in conference play. The bearcats had the upper hand in the first quarter putting up 5 goals to Salem's 2. Salem outscored them in the second however netting 4 goals over McKendree's 3 taking the score to 8-6. Salem did their best to make a comeback however the 1st quarter lead set by the bearcats was too much for Salem to overcome leaving the final score 9-12 to McKendree. Iris Oudshoorn scored 3 goals in the game. Emma Halle and Claudia Cziernawski each netted 2. Morgan Riordan and Courtney Repiz added 1 goal each.

In game three of the weekend Salem dominated over Gannon. The first quarter of the game showed some great defence from either side as the score was tied up at 1-1. However, in the second quarter Salem stepped on the gas scoring 6 goals to Gannon's 2 taking the score to 7-3. Gannon was unable to catch the lead Salem put up and the tigers did not slow down taking the final score to 14-7. Shemiyah Ross tallied another 5 goals in this game and had 2 field blocks. Kerri Brooks, Emma Halle and Courtney Repinz each scored 2. Sierra Maze, Morgan Riordan and Abigail Hopkins each added 1 goal to the score.

This was a great weekend for the tigers as they had improved from their las conference game weekend where they went 1-2. The tigers next weekend of games will be their conference championship on April 29th in Lebanon, IL.
