SALEM, West Virginia - After an impressive weekend that saw the Tigers lock in 3 solid wins and an exhibition victory as well, the Salem men's water polo program has some exciting news to add ahead of their home opening contests this weekend.
Goalkeeper Duarte Costa has been named Defensive Player of the Week by the Western Water Polo Association. It was a great weekend for the Tigers with 3 wins, and Costa was a big part of that. He made 40 saves on his way to a .727 save percentage.. He also only conceded roughly six goals per contest and had four steals on the weekend.
The Portuguese goalie should still have a big role for the Tigers this weekend, as Salem will play host to Mercyhurst, Washington and Jefferson, and Johns Hopkins as part of a 4 team event at Mylan Park on Saturday, September 9th. Game 1 between Mercyhurst and Washington and Jefferson will start at Noon. The Tigers are set to play against Johns Hopkins at 2 PM and Washington and Jefferson at 6 PM.
