LEWISBURG, Pennsylvania - After a strong ending to the Navy Open, the Salem men's water polo team headed over to Bucknell this weekend to compete in another invitational. This time, the Tigers went 1-2 on the weekend with a win over rival Gannon, but two narrow defeats at the hands of host Bucknell and Mount Saint Mary's. Each contest played out as follows:
Bucknell 18, Salem 15
To open the weekend, Salem faces off with the host, Bucknell. The Tigers started off strong with a 6-5 advantage after the first, but Bucknell made some defensive adjustments to limit Salem to just 3 goals a quarter the rest of the way. Therefore, Salem was simply outpaced late in the match and fell 18-15. Statistically, Danko Kesic led the way for Salem with 5 goals, and Marko Zivojinovic was just behind him with 4 goals.Â
Mount Saint Mary's 18, Salem 11
In game 2, the Tigers had a rematch with Mount Saint Mary's. Unfortunately, this time around, the Tigers were still unable to overcome their foes just as they had the previous weekend. Salem had a tough time finding the back of the net early on, and a late push in the 4th was not quite enough. Therefore, Salem fell 18-11. Offensively, Salem was led by 4 goals from Danko Kesic.Â
Salem 19, Gannon 16
In the final contest of the weekend. Salem faced off with old rival Gannon. The Tigers jumped out in front early, and rode a 8 goal 3rd quarter to a strong 19-16 victory. Marko Zivojinovic led Salem offensively with 7 goals.Â
Next up, the Tigers are set to take on their WWPA foes along with Augustana on October 11th and 12th when WWPA conference play opens at McKendree.
